C.L. David — art collector and museum founder

David's Collection is more than just a museum — it's the story of one man's passion for art. The museum was created by Supreme Court Justice C.L. David, who throughout his life built up an impressive art collection and since then ensured that it could be experienced by the public in the house where he himself lived.

His interest in art began as early as the 1910s, when he bought paintings and sculptures by Danish artists. Later, he dabbled in European furniture and handicrafts of the 17th and 18th centuries. A particular fascination with porcelain and earthenware led him on to the beautiful ceramics of the Islamic world.
