Christoffer Wilhelm Eckersberg (1783—1853) was one of the most significant figures in Danish art history. After studies at the Academy of Fine Arts and travels to Paris and Rome, he developed a new, lifelike style of painting, focusing on light, perspective and precise observations. As a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts, he had a great influence on a whole generation of artists and helped to shape the Danish Golden Age.
