Islamic art and the influence of China,

Trade and diplomacy between China and the Middle East started before the birth of Christ, but trade and cultural exchange took off in earnest in the 6th and 7th centuries as Islam spread along the major trade routes in Asia.

The growing trade led to a lively exchange of goods, ideas, and art. From China came porcelain, textiles and paper, among other things, while glass, spices and minerals were sent the opposite way. At the same time, artisans inspired each other, so that both Islamic and Chinese art acquired new expressions.
